Lately there’s been buzz about a horse-friendly version of Premarin, the hormone replacement therapy drug that’s been on the market since the late 1990s.
Now, the drug industry is talking with potential buyers of the drug, a source familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.
"It's a new market for Premarin, so it's kind of a new idea that we're trying to create, a new product that we've been trying to market for a while," said John T. Fusco, who owns the horse brand Horse Mall, which makes the brand name Premarin.
Lately, the horse brand has become a household name, and horse buyers are looking to buy horse parts for their horses, Fusco said.
While horse parts are used in traditional medicine, in the industry, the brand Premarin has been around for a while.
But the drug’s maker, Bayer, is ready to sell horse parts and the horse brand’s horse manufacturers have been trying to sell horse parts for the past six months.
“We have to keep our eye on what the market will be like for these products," Bayer’s Tullamore said in a. “We are looking at a very different market.”
Larger-scale animal drugmakers are also looking to buy horse parts. Bayer, which makes Premarin, is looking to buy horse parts from the horse brand, Fusco said.
“We haven't had any major deals on this product, but there is a lot of interest from the horse brand,” Fusco said.
In October, the horse brand will sell horse parts to a number of different companies including Wyeth, Merck & Co., Abbott, A& Co, GlaxoSmithKline and Takeda, the Wyeth spokesman said.
Larger-scale animal drugmakers are also looking to buy horse parts, Fusco said.
The horse brand, which sells the brand Premarin in the United States, is already making a profit of about $1 billion a year, Tullamore said.
The horse brand, based in the United States, has been selling horse parts since it launched the drug in the United States in 2005. But horse manufacturers are hoping that the industry's big buyers can help them to get the product in the United States.
“We have to have a good deal on it, but we're very excited that there will be some good deals that are going to be made in the United States," Fusco said.

Bayer said it is also looking for horse parts from the horse brand to meet demand in the United States, with a target price of $4 to $8 per horse, depending on the brand.
Bayer is in the process of negotiating with U. S. buyers for the horse brand and Wyeth, Merck & Co. and Abbott are also preparing for that possibility. "We're going to be looking for horse parts from the horse brand and Wyeth," said B. C. horse brand spokesman Mike B. Miller.
The horse brand, based in the United States, is already selling horse parts to U. S.-licensed veterinarians, Miller said.
In addition, the horse brand, based in Canada, is preparing for its first deal with Wyeth and Merck.

It is not known exactly how the horse brand will work, Fusco said.
Bayer is still in discussions with U. buyers, and the horse brand is still working on how to sell horse parts.
